Get to Know PAUL

My passion along with physical therapy is working with golfers. In 2006, I began working with numerous PGA/ LPGA Tour players on physical therapy needs. This reignited my golf passion. Because not only could I use my physical therapy skills, I could pull in my biomechanics background, fitness, and wellness skills. I then began training with the Titleist Performance Institute in California to further develop my understanding of golf swing biomechanics and how they could affect the body. I have since completed numerous courses and obtained my Level 3 Medical Professional certification, Level 2 Golf Biomechanics certification, Level 3 Golf Fitness certification, and Level 3 Junior Golf Coach certification.

My last certification through Titleist has created a paradigm shift in my thinking about training juniors with regards to sports. We will be working towards educating the junior athlete, parents, and coaches. I feel that there needs to be a change in how we train the junior athlete based on research into Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD). Our program is based on the athlete’s biological/developmental “age”, not chronological age. During my years of working in the physical therapy field, I have seen many changes. But, the philosophy I have stuck to as both the Director of Rehab in the hospital or as the owner of a growing private practice is: Provide high-quality, direct one-on-one treatments based on each individual’s needs.

I am married and have two great boys which I get to enjoy Boy Scouting: camping, hiking, and much, much more…I also enjoy getting to the links as time allows.

I obtained my undergraduate degree from Angelo State University in Biology/Physics, with a Minor in Biomechanics and I then attended Texas State University where I obtained my degree in Physical Therapy in 1994. Some of my specialties include certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, Titleist Performance Inst. Medical Professional Level 3, Titleist Performance Inst.- Jr Golf Coach Level 3 and Certified Sports Nutrition Coach.

Following graduation, I began working at the hospital in San Marcos in their in-patient department.  My bigger challenge was to begin developing a new outpatient department and wellness center to be located on-site. Within a year we had developed the area’s premier out-patient department specializing in orthopedic rehab, stroke rehab, and became an accredited advanced wound care clinic.
Following graduation from Texas State, I began courses and became certified through the McKenzie Institute to develop a better understanding of the mechanical issues relating to neck and lower back pain.
I have also recently completed the certification program through the Manual Therapy Institute of Texas, to advance my orthopedic manual skills.
